Moannie

When Moannie's daughter Sara wrote to me with the news of her mother's passing earlier this week, she gave me (along with a few others, including David McMahon and Suldog) the great honour of representing her blog family by writing a couple of very short lines to be read at the service. They are as follows:

In this strange and wonderful community known as blogging, words are shared, funny bones are tickled and hearts are touched. Deeply. We soon realize that there are very real, wonderful people behind those words.

From early on, Moannie has been among those whom many of us held dearest. Her fascinating tales, delightful sense of humour and tender heart will be sorely missed and always remembered with love.

Good-bye, our beautiful friend.

Knew her since David's POTD days.
Great loss indeed.
RIP!

Well done.
I've wondered how my blog friends would know what happened should/when I pass. I've even thought of pre-posting an "if you are seeing this post" post way in the future so it wouldn't post accidentally unless I was really 'unavailable.'

We salute our web friend, Moannie

its pretty amazing the relationships we develop....i remember just about 2 years ago when barry passed from cancer....and richard was a week later....neither of them i ever met except through their words...and how it felt....i am sorry....

I didn't follow her either, Hilary, but I do know how hard it is to lose friends, either virtual or physical. I feel like some of my cyber relationships mean as much to me as family. You are one of them, Benny too. Please accept my condolences for your loss.

Beautiful Hilary.

It is amazing, how much we come to care for our blogging friends - even if we never physically meet - and even when we have lapses in between posts!

Thanks for your beautiful words celebrating Moanie who will be forever in the hearts of those who were fortunate to have known her. I count three fine women now lost in blogland, and soon, we will add more. What a beautiful world we live in for us all to join hands and celebrate each other's lives so intensely.

Thanks for representing us so well, Hilary.

I am impressed with the family to realize that bloggers are close friends more emotionally close than people would want to admit. Your tribute is touching, wonderful, and shares the beauty of this wonderful friend of yours.

Nicely expressed. Moannie is one of several blog personalities that I have "known" and accompanied to the edge of blogdom and watched proceed ahead in search of new horizons. As her daughter said, her voice can still be heard.

I didn't follow this lovely lady but I can tell she meant a lot to you and I'm so sorry for your loss and her families loss. It amazing how we can meet each other across blog land and feel that connection. It's been the best surprise I've found when I started my blog.

This blogger and I have passed in the night, yet her passing reminds me that in some way we bloggers are a community of friends. It really is amazing how we visit each other with the desire to be kind and supportive and warm. I remember the early days of blogging, when some show-offs and self-styled intellectual snobs would run around insulting people....really made things unpleasant. But goodness has prevailed. And Moannie's passing is a reminder that our good intentions, our goodness generally, counts for a heck of a lot.

Beautifully spoken. I adored Moannie. She was so kind to me. I will miss her greatly. I have a hole in my heart now....someday, maybe we will meet in the great beyond...I told her not to forget me because I want to have long talks with her then.

Nice tribute... I have learned of a few blogger friends death and it's hard to know what to say or how to mark the death of someone you know but not really. Sorry for your loss and for the loss the family experiences.

How thoughtful of her daughter to ask those who knew her as a blogger to write something about her. We are indeed all real behind our written words. Thank you for acknowledging that in such a heartfelt way.

Wonderful tribute, may Moanie rest in peace.

It's all true, there are many friendships that found and grown through the blogasphere. These relationships can be very deep and rich even if we've met in the "real world"

Beautiful tribute Hilary, and spot on. She touched many, many people.

I've been weeping on and off since I discovered the news on her blog, because I'm angry with myself for being "too busy" to follow blogs that have made such an impact in my life- in particular Moannie's. You couldn't have described the blogging community any better. Thank you xx
